“The problem with textbooks is that they are out of date the moment they are printed. School districts invest in textbook teaching even as it robs teachers of their art and deflates student engagement. Textbook teaching assumes teachers need to be controlled like workers on a conveyor belt and that students need to deliver robotic answers that, while easy to grade, kill motivation for learning itself.
