About the Event

This is a PBL practicum on applied learning. On August 8 at the Puyallup Stormwater Center we apply PBL principles to salmon science and indigenous ways of knowing, aquatic toxicology research, stormwater solutions, urban planning, treaty rights, climate change impacts in our bioregion, climate justice principles and solutions, With special guest Stephanie Blair. On August 9 we will be at the Fish Passage Facility in the upper Green River Watershed with experts from Tacoma Water, Natlie Jones, Tyler Patterson, and Nick Nevotny. Build your understanding of watershed geography, snowpack, salmon biology, flooding, fish passage engineering, politics, and treaty rights. On August 10 (via zoom) you will be supported in building your own PBL curriculum pathway, project design, and resources while adapting the best activities from our growing collection of beautiful lesson frameworks. Learn how to engage and support students in impact project design, data tracking, and reporting to stakeholders. Build your students’ geographic literacy using our community impact mapping website mywater.world. Curate your own resources from our “Living Textbook” of student-generated annotated links and case studies being developed by our Teacher Fellows.  KAYAK TOUR, August 21 from 1:00-5:00. This is a bonus for folks who register and attend all three days of the Lab. We can accommodate up to 32 people.
