Yasmeen Chatelle

Yasmeen “Yaz” Chatelle is an Environmental Studies major at the University of Washington whose passion for sustainability began during the COVID‑19 pandemic after discovering Annie Leonard’s Story of Stuff. With nearly a decade of experience in the food service industry and a decade of loving EDM and music festivals, Yaz has noticed how sustainability often feels out of reach for people who don’t see themselves reflected in traditional environmental spaces. Her love for EDM and festival culture inspires her future goal: creating a sustainability‑focused energy drink company that welcomes people from all backgrounds and sits at the intersection of environmentalism and nightlife, making climate‑minded choices feel relevant to a wider range of communities. Yaz joined Sustainability Ambassadors as part of her three‑quarter capstone, using the program as a roadmap toward graduation with the UW Class of 2027 and to strengthen her skills in environmental communication, social media strategy, and marketing for her future business.
