Sophia Hsu is a rising senior at Redmond High School who is excited to advocate for sustainability in our community! Sophia loves hiking, biking, and enjoying the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, with some of her favorite locations being Meadowdale Beach Park, Little Si, and Rattlesnake Ridge. With her love of nature, she feels impassioned to spark personal and community-wide change by advocating for environmental protection as a Sustainability Ambassadors. Beyond Sustainability Ambassadors, Sophia loves making music, learning about biology, and   advocacy. Sophia is a violist in the nationally-ranked Redmond High School Philharmonic Orchestra and serves as the program's president. There, she collaborates with her student leadership team to plan social events, promote fundraisers, and improve the program culture. In addition to music, Sophia is the co-president of the RHS biology club, where she hosts opportunities for students to engage in hands-on exploratory activities, like dissections. Finally, Sophia co-created a mental health advocacy campaign focused on teenage self-esteem called youxglow. With student interviews, daily affirmations, and in-person support meetings, Sophia amplified conversations about self-esteem in the community, creating a safe space for teens to seek support. In the future, Sophia plans to combine her interests for biology and community advocacy by pursuing biology and healthcare.
