Matthew Fischer is a first-year student at Georgia Institute of Technology with a commitment to environmental stewardship. Since joining Sustainability Ambassadors in 2023, he has led several impact campaigns such as “I Bike to School”, “My School’s New Bottle Filler”, and “Carbon Commute Counting.” Since graduating from Issaquah High School in 2025, Matthew has continued to lead the City of Issaquah team in multiple projects, including hosting the Issaquah Town Hall in partnership with the IHS ASB Leadership Class, City of Issaquah Council Members and Mayor, and City of Issaquah Sustainability Department. During his time in high school, he successfully worked with the Issaquah School District School Board to pass a sustainability policy (Operational Expectation 17 - Sustainability), having received support letters from 5 city councils. Matthew also served as a data analyst in a $1 million federal grant proposal to fund the purchase of three electric school buses, analyzing average school bus route length and the amount of CO2 reduced by using electric school buses. Matthew leveraged his position as Student Body President at Issaquah High to launch the ASB Student Government Sustainability Strategy at schools across Washington State. The ASB strategy includes four main areas: Electrification, Water Conservation, Zero Carbon Commuting, and Waste Reduction.
