Kaavya Laks

Kaavya is a rising sophomore at University Prep, a private school in Seattle, Washington. She first discovered her interest in sustainability through nature documentaries and learning about how climate change affects coral reefs and marine ecosystems. Seeing the rapid decline of habitats she admired sparked a deeper curiosity about environmental action and inspired her to look for ways students can make meaningful change in their communities.

At school, she joined Green Team, where she helped coordinate Turn Off the Lights Day (TOLD) and supported a schoolwide carbon footprint survey. Through these projects, she collaborated with teachers and students to encourage participation and saw firsthand how small actions can create measurable impact. In her free time, Kaavya enjoys art, learning guitar, and doing theater. At school she is involved in Red Cross club and serves on the culture/ethics board within ASB. She hopes to pursue a career in the medical field, stemming from her interest in biology.
