Gus Maykut

Through countless bikes, hikes, and backpacking trips in the Pacific Northwest from a young age, Gus found his avid love for nature. After witnessing the degradation and rise of invasive species in natural spaces sacred to him–directly accelerated by climate change–this enjoyment quickly evolved into a sense of stewardship. By incorporating his dual interest in politics, Gus aims to find new ways to work collaboratively and motivate members of his community to join him in creating a sustainable future. As a Junior at Lincoln High School, he works to achieve his goal through participation in advocacy and initiative groups such as Environmental Club, ROAM (Rivers, Oceans and Mountains), and ReLove Lab, a youth-led organization that promotes sustainable fashion through clothing swaps. To Gus, Sustainability Ambassadors is a place where he can further drive community change while also connecting with like-minded peers dedicated to stewardship. In his free time when he’s not out exploring, you’ll probably find Gus playing piano, drawing, or out thrifting at the Ballard Goodwill!
